Meg: community manager

The Wardrobe Channel’s community manager is Meg Taylor.

Meg’s pre-launch role is to make sure there’s just enough content around on launch day to show new community members what The Wardrobe Channel is ‘for’: and not a bit more. That entails a high-wire balancing act, where on the one hand she must give outlines of what could be here and examples of what people might add… and on the other hand, must leave plenty of room for new community members to do what they want.

Post-launch, she’ll make sure the site’s community is happy, heard and growing.

She also has her own Wardrobe Channel show called Style Spice and is one of the most frequent contributors to Style Encyclopedia.

Background and qualifications

Meg considers herself a professional learner.  She’s a proud uber-nerd and a quick learner with varied interests, evidenced by her liberal arts background.  She started college as a jazz performance major, but finally graduated the University of Florida with a bachelor of the arts in classical studies (emphasis in Latin literature) and a second major in Spanish linguistics, with minors in linguistics and foreign language education — all with a totally insane 4.0 GPA.

How did that lead to a job at the Wardrobe Channel?  Meg started blogging about fashion and style as a hobby shortly after graduation and her own self-propelled style transformation.  She applied the same skills she honed while a college student: how to ask meaningful questions, search diligently for the answers, and then communicate her findings to others.  Her work caught the eye of Sara who asked her to join on at The Bargain Queens.  Meg has worked with Sara ever since and followed her here to the Wardrobe Channel.

While former “fashion klutz” Meg is still surprised to find herself working as a fashion writer and the host of an online style show, she’s no stranger to writing online.  She started her first web site in ‘97 — about saxophones.  She’s tinkered at websites ever since and has gleefully watched the evolution of the internet.  She’s proud to be playing an active role in Web 2.0.

Quirky but true

Meg rarely gets stage fright when singing or playing music, but she is rather camera shy — especially when it comes to video.  Meg breaks out into song between takes to calm her nerves.

Despite her love for fashion and a ginormous shoe collection, Meg is also into living frugally, simply, and with the environment in mind.  She gardens, raises hens, and has even been known to hunt for edible wee..er..herbs on neighborhood roads, some of which make it back into her yard.  Her interest in frugal living led her to found FruWiki.com, a frugal wiki site.

Meg is addicted to wiki sites.  She once wrote a college paper on the history of the word “wiki” in Spanish for a course in the history of Spanish vocabulary.  While she has never shied away from doing proper research when necessary, she was happy to be able to justify doing online research for that paper and find a legitimate reason to cite Wikipedia in a college paper.
