It seems like only yesterday that I started writing at The Bargain Queens. It’s certainly been a good gig and I have mixed feelings about moving on from it because I’ve had so much fun writing there. Seriously, I got paid to window shop online and write about my favorite finds — how cool is that?!
I was just getting really comfortable with things when Sara told me that she wanted to take things further and that we’d be starting up a new site with a new name. I like that she’s always raising the bar and that she keeps me on my toes. It’s a quality I really admire and I love learning new things. However, I couldn’t imagine then how much further she wanted to go. I found out over a rather interesting online chat that went something like this:
Sara: I think we might finally have a name for our new project! drumroll please… drumroll?!?
Me: drummmmmmmm
Sara: lol. ok, the name we’re thinking of is…The Wardrobe Channel
Me: hmm
Sara: ok, Merc’s been doing the ‘we got it’ dance about it
Me: oh no. lol.
Sara: ok, you hate it?
Me: um, neh, meh, uh
Sara: ok…
Me: sounds very television
Sara: yup — so we’d have to go a little more multimedia to do it
Me: which isn’t a bad thing, but I hear the camera adds 15 pounds.
Just in case you couldn’t read between the lines, that was me seeing my life flash before my eyes. You see, I’m actually rather camera shy — and especially video camera shy. My husband and I didn’t even have a videographer at our own wedding. While I have no problem playing my sax or singing in front of an audience, telling me that someone’s recording is the surest way to set me pacing backstage.
Of course, I could have just said, “Sound great, Sara! You’ll find me behind the camera.” But I didn’t. Yep, I like a challenge and once I muster the courage up I’m all in — which is why you haven’t seen much of me yet. Don’t worry, you’ll see plenty of me soon enough. I’ve been busy getting a show ready, including getting used to seeing myself on video. Surprise!
Well, at least it’s still a huge surprise to me every day when I mosey to the kitchen for some breakfast and look into the back room where Sara and I set up the studio last month. Yes, she flew down here to help out and give me my birthday present, a video camera and accessories. How’s that for a supportive boss!
Yes, it’s been a crazy few months, but this is just one more step in a surreal journey that started a bit further back.
Stay tuned for my next post on how a nerd found fashion, and a new career.

This from the gal who kept hassling ME about doing video content on The Bargain Queens blog…

Guilty! But I didn’t know it would get this big! And seeing as I didn’t have a video camera, I wasn’t thinking that I’d be in the videos — at least not any time soon! Thanks for fixing that, though.
Thanks, too, for believing in me. It’s quite an amazing thing to work with someone who is willing to really invest so much of her own time and other resources in the future of not just the company, but of me personally. It’s really a pleasure working for you, though truth be told, I feel like you work just as hard (if not more) for me.
